Daily Record (Glasgow), 19 February 2002. "Fun with a midlife crisis" (Pick of the Box). ----------------------------------------------------------- *Manchild*, BBC2, 10.00 pm. Hands up everyone who knows a bloke who - once he reached the milestone of 40 - grew a ponytail, bought a motorbike and ditched his wife? Mmm, just about everyone then. So we'll all be laughing and groaning in alternate measures at *Manchild*, the new comedy-drama about four forty-something males. It's a sort of *Sex and the City* for menopausal men and its star Nigel Havers even does a Carrie-style voiceover to explain what's going on. Like that show, *Manchild* has more than its fair share of fruity language and sexual shenanigans. Havers plays Terry, the vain, bike-riding hero or villain of the piece. He's got an ex-wife, grown kids, a new motorbike and an irresistible urge to become a babe magnet. He has three cohorts attempting to get over the same growing old pains - James (*Buffy*'s Anthony Head), Patrick (Don Warrington of *Rising Damp* fame) and Gary (Ray Burdis). Gary, unlike the others, is still married, albeit relunctantly to the shrewish Cheryl (former *EastEnders*' star Lindsay Coulson). Tonight James, who is a dentist, suffers an embarrassing climax to his date with a model. ----------------------------------------------------------- Bentley's Bedlam http://www.BetsyDa.com/bedlam.html This website is for information and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to infringe on copyrights held by others.
