Denver Rocky Mountain News, September 26, 2000, by Penny Parker "On the Town" ----------------------------------------------------------- I took On the Town Junior where no On the Town columnist has gone before.= It was Starcon 2000 (a real Trekkie trip) at the Holiday Inn DIA on Saturday. Now, I can barely sort out Star Trek from Star Wars, but OTTJ knows his sci-fi stuff. The place was packed with (scary) costumed fans, collectible merchandise (with pretty prices) and stars of stage and screen signing autographs. Anthony Head, (Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) commanded the longest line. But Ethan Phillips (Neelix the cook on Star Trek: Voyager) was the magnet for Junior. We caught Phillips' act on stage at the Holiday Inn. "What's this convention called?" Phillips asked the audience. "Starcon? In Savannah, Ga., where 20 people showed up, it was called Microcon. In Cannes, France, it's called Cannescon." And the comedy kept on coming. "My life hasn't changed much since I've been on TV. I was just telling that to the guy who brushes my teeth," Phillips quipped. "I don't wash my hands any more, I get them dry cleaned." Pah-rum-pah. EAVESDROPPING: "The only thing scarier than the Starcon people are the Renaissance Festival folks." ----------------------------------------------------------- Bentley's Bedlam http://www.BetsyDa.com/bedlam.html This website is for information and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to infringe on copyrights held by others.
