Evening Times (Glasglow), 19 February 2002. "Nigel is living in fast lane." ----------------------------------------------------------- Nigel Havers thinks millions of men will be acutely jealous when they see him star in this evening's new comedy drama series, *Manchild*. His character, Terry, has reached middle age with no ties or health problems - but plenty of female companionship and money. And, does he know how to spend it! "He's a boy with toys and one of those just happens to be a BMW R1100 motorbike," says Nigel with undisguised delight. "It was great fun to ride!" Even though a lot of men in the audience might wish to change places with his character, Havers does urge a little caution. "There was a report out last year which said that male divorcees, such as Terry, are far more vulnerable to heart disease and premature death than married men," he says. "And that, to my mind, is absolutely no surprise. Divorce and bachelorhood second time around mean the freedom to push the boat out with nobody there to stop you doing it. "Once you get into middle age that can be a fatal mix. "If you are happily married - as I am - there isn't the need or desire to do those kind of things. Or at least, if there is, very occasionally, there is somebody around who cares about you and is willing to keep you from overstretching yourself." For Nigel, *Manchild* is his first bash at a series which is at least partly comedic since he appeared with Tony Britton in the successul 1980s sitcom, *Don't Wait Up.* And having been married twice in real life - currently to actress Polly Bloomfield - *Manchild* gave him his first opportunity to be a bachelor for many years, albeit experienced second hanf through his characters. "It's fair to say me and the other guys - Don Warrington, Ray Burdis and Tony Head - relished the opportunity to sample a little bit of the high-flying single life," grins Nigel. ----------------------------------------------------------- Bentley's Bedlam http://www.BetsyDa.com/bedlam.html This website is for information and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to infringe on copyrights held by others.
