Jewish Chronicle, 4 April 1994, by Valerie Monchi ----------------------------------------------------------- *Rope* (Wyndham's) tells the story of an "immaculate murder" committed in upper-class London in the late 1920s *writes Valerie Monchi.* Brandon and Granillo have killed a fellow Oxford student motivated by a desire for danger and adventure. Their fascination for the macabre leads them to invite a few guests, including the victim's father, to dine off the chest in which the corpse lies. Cadell (Anthony Head), a nihilist poet, begins to suspect foul play. Patrick Hamilton's play, which inspired the Hitchcock film, ends on a crude moralistic note, but it is well worth seeing, not least because of Head's outstanding performance. ----------------------------------------------------------- Bentley's Bedlam http://www.BetsyDa.com/bedlam.html This website is for information and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to infringe on copyrights held by others.
