Radio Times, 17-23 November 2001, by David Roberts. "Location Location Location: Hot News From the RAC Club: The Heat is On" ----------------------------------------------------------- It was 29 degrees Celsius/84 degrees Fahrenheit outside on Pall Mall, but down in the RAC Club's Edwardian basement, it was far, far hotter. Here, on a scorching late-summer day, the cast and crew of BBC2's forthcoming comedy drama *Manchild* were on a schedule that meant the day's filming had to be, wait for it, in a sauna. The production notes describe the make-up simply as "sweat." Dressed in no more than towels, and maintaining an admirable bonhomie despite the heat, were stars Nigel Havers, Anthony Head (back in Britain after his *Buffy* adventures), Ray Burdis and Don Warrington, best known for his role in *Rising Damp.* Due on our screens next year, *Manchild* follows four successful fortysomethings who decide to face up to the immiment prospect of turning 50 with a major hedonistic flourish. The grand dining rooms of the London club were also used in the filming. A building that has spent a century dedicated to leisure and pleasure couldn't be a more suitable setting for a drama about men who have decided that life can be a very fat, juicy oyster. Just as well, then, that the club's members were, as one of the staff put it, "semi-understanding" about BBC outsiders walking about the place in slightly less than regulation "jacket, shirt and tie (at all times)." ----------------------------------------------------------- Bentley's Bedlam http://www.BetsyDa.com/bedlam.html This website is for information and entertainment purposes only and is not intended to infringe on copyrights held by others.
