Try as I may to think nice thoughts about *Love in a Cold 
Climate* (Thames), the feeling recurs that eccentricity and 
caricature have been most dreadfully muddled. Only the 
performances with a component of privacy, like those of Judi 
Dench and Isabelle Amyes, still survive, along with Michael 
Aldridge's demented moustache.
