    U-M Women's Athletics Terms

    Big Ten- a group of 11 midwestern large universities.

    Field Hockey - A sport played by women on a grass field with short wood hockey sticks.

    MAIAW- Midwest Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

    SMAIAW- State of Michigan Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

    WAA- Women's Athletic Association.


    Archival Terms

    Linear Feet- A measurement of how much space the collection physically occupies.

    Original Order- The principle that archives should maintain the arrangement including document control numbers, indexing schemes and other organizational characteristics in order to perserve existing relationships and evidential significance.

    Provenance- The organization or individual that created, accumulated, and/or maintained and used records in the context of business.

    Series- File units or documents arranged in accordance with a filing system or maintained as a unit because they result from the same accumulation or filing process, the same function, or the same activity; have a particular form or have some other relationship arising out of their creation, receipt or use.

    Subseries- A subunit of the series.
